04.07.2015 Consolidating his project of historical recovery of Latin American painting, Marcelo Pombo presents a series of showcases and two pieces of sackcloth, which he uses to associate concrete art, informalism, craftsmanship and terrestrial aspects (represented by mud).
The use of mud in many of these works continues Marcelo Pombo’s line of work on materials associated with popular culture, a line pursued by the artist from the start of his career at the end of the 1980s. On this occasion, the characteristic materials in his work, like aerosol paint and synthetic enamels, are reflected in the earthy colours and mix with the crackled texture. Universal, of low cost and austere, very accessible and easy to use, the mud establishes a relationship with the autochthonous on one hand and, on the other, in a more essential sense, with the primitive nature of the production of images. It is also linked with the port zone in the south of the city where the gallery is located.
